Angst, often confused with anxiety, is a transcendent emotion in that it combines the unbearable anguish of life with the hopes of overcoming this seemingly impossible situation. Without the important element of hope, then the emotion is anxiety, not angst. Angst denotes the constant struggle one has with the burdens of life that weighs on the dispossessed and not knowing when the salvation will appear.

Your desire to see your family at the annual gathering is offset by your anticipatory angst of being judged by your family though your own inner critic judges you mercilessly.

One who thinks s/he is deep in saying that the world is a sad depressing place. Angst-mongers are those trying to be cool by acting depressed. Often occurs in stupid teens like me.

Bullshit term coined by those who don't know the effects and feelings brought on by depression. While there ARE those who don't know the full effects and are, in fact, just whiny, the term teen angst is highly offensive to those who are in fact depressed, clinically or not, and the dumbasses who apply the term to general teen culture ought to spend one week in the shoes of those who they criticize.

2) A metaphorical monkey which brings angst to whose ever back it attaches itself to. From the phrase "he's got a monkey on his back." Rest assured that angst monkeys are much worse then normal back monkeys.
